Since 2000 much of my life has been dedicated to the cause of election integrity. On the one hand it’s an honor to have the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful and unique way to illuminating a dark but vital crevice of our political process. I feel proud of the work I’ve done and how it’s been instrumental in election challenges of various types all over the country and in promoting a return to observable vote counting as the foundation of our democracy going forward.
On the other hand, this work is exhausting, often demoralizing, and expensive. Why expensive? Because not only does it rarely pay anything, it takes so much of my time to do it well that it does not leave much in which to earn an ordinary living. If I could live on the appreciation of my colleagues in the election integrity movement–if I could pay my living costs in ‘likes,’ ‘shares,’ and ‘retweets’–this page of my website wouldn’t be necessary.
I also have received such a positive and grateful response from so many who have read CODE RED, that I have come to believe that this book can be a very important vehicle for bringing awareness of the perils of our unobservable vote counting process, and what we can and must do to reform it, to a wide audience. But that, especially given the inertia and resistance endemic to the world of publishing and media in general, is also expensive: it takes a serious PR campaign just to get the word out and the ball rolling.
So I find myself here in the wake of the 2016 election appealing to you, my supporters, to help sustain my work by making a financial contribution. Your gift will enable me to continue to dedicate my time and energy to this vital work.
